Daniel Koplowitz Architect

I established Preservation Design Group in 1988 with a focus on Historic Preservation and exterior restoration. Over the 25 years of practice I have gravitated toward renovations and new construction that impact older structures or historic contexts.

My practice is eclectic and a result of varied experience.  In part,  living overseas, in France, Italy, Brazil and Belgium had the most influence in my becoming an Architect. I began my professional career in Washington, DC  and came to New York after receiving a Masters degree in Architecture specializing in historic preservation.

Whether restoring historic buildings or expanding and renovating others, I am committed to achieving a result that serves my clients' needs and provides beauty with lasting value.

I continue to pursue preservation ideals, not only to preserve the built environment, but to recycle, restore and create a healthy built environment. Energy conservation and sustainable architecture is rooted in the preservation movement. Interestingly, extending the life cycle and improving the energy efficiency of existing buildings is by far the most 'green' endeavor.

More recently, commissions have diversified my practice further. I recently completed a small office building on Main Street in Nyack, NY, a renovation and creative conversion of unused space in a house in Palisades, NY and a major interior and exterior renovation of a house in Irvington, NY.  Not in keeping with my 'traditional' style, I have a modernist 'cube' house slated for construction in the Spring of 2012 in Grandview-on-Hudson, NY.
